November 2nd, 2019 - Mega Superbowl of Poultry Show, Norman OK
Reserve Best of Variety White Cockerel
Results - We had a great time at the show. It was really big with close to 2000 birds. We got to see new people and birds with our show being outside of Texas for the first time. We didn't do too well at this show. The birds were in pretty good shape and I thought we'd do better. In the Open show a white cockerel won Best of Breed and we were Reserve Variety to him. He was from the same breeder as us, so very similar birds. Pretty much the same birds we'd had at the other shows but not so much luck. As they tell me you're paying for one persons opinion. And although there is a Standard of Perfection, not everyone sees it the same way. The birds that bested us were quality birds, so I can take the lack of success and move on. We'll be back next year and try to do better.
Preview- Our next show we are attending is the Canadian Valley Poultry Club Mega Superbowl of Poultry Show. This will be our first show out of state. We got our NPIP a little while back so we can go to these out of state shows. The weather here at home has turned much colder and we've decided not to wash any birds. Most that we are taking were washed two weeks ago and we've kept them in clean cages. The other couple that didn't go to that one will just get wiped down. We can't justify the danger to the birds of being damp after washing right now. But most of them look pretty good. Excited to see how the wheaten and black cock birds do that have done well in the last couple shows. Plus the pullets look really good and our white cockerel I think has a good future. In OK we expect to see competitors we haven't seen before. Texas doesn't let people from out of Texas in to show. So hopefully we'll meet some new folks and see how our birds compare. They are billing the show like it's a really big deal so we're excited.
Thanks to the Canadian Valley Poultry Club for hosting a great event!
